Cem Emüler — Biography

Cem Emüler was born on 19 April 1962 in Ankara. After graduating from the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, he turned to theatre, earning an undergraduate degree from the Theatre Department of Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory and a master's degree there in theatre pedagogy and directing, alongside short drama training courses abroad.

Emüler began his career as an actor at state theatres and later moved into directing as well, serving as founding director of the Antalya State Theatre and as director of the Ankara State Theatre, and teaching theatre for many years at Hacettepe and Bilkent universities. For directing the play Yanık, he won the Best Director of the Year award at the 2012 Afife Theatre Awards.

On television he appeared in the series Sonbahar Kadınları (1998), Ayrılsak da Beraberiz (1999), En Son Babalar Duyar (2002), Kadın İsterse (2004) and OKS Anneleri (2007). His roles in Behzat Ç. Bir Ankara Polisiyesi (2010), Bir Günah Gibi (2011), Çocuklar Duymasın (2013), Kertenkele (2014) and Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz (2015) established him as a strong character actor, and he reached wide audiences as Nejat in Aşk Laftan Anlamaz. In later years he continued his stage and screen work in productions including Mahkum, Bonkis, Hudutsuz Sevda, Ahit: Musa'nın Hikâyesi and Kalender Pide.
