Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa — Biography

Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa Sánchez (1940, La Felguera, Asturias – 23 September 2015, Seville) was a Spanish theatre director, writer, university lecturer and actor. Although much of his career was devoted to the stage and to teaching, he became widely known in Spanish cinema for his character roles. His performance as Vecino in Benito Zambrano's Solas (1999) earned him the Goya Award for Best New Actor in 2000. He later appeared as Juan in Elsa & Fred (2005) and as the father in The Bride (2015), and also guest-starred in the television series El Ministerio del Tiempo. He died of lung cancer in Seville on 23 September 2015, at the age of 75.
