Aşkın Nur Yengi — Biography
Aşkın Nur Yengi (born 3 July 1970, Istanbul) is a Turkish pop singer and actress. After primary school she studied cello at the Turkish Music State Conservatory, graduating after eleven years of training. In 1981 she began singing backing vocals for Sezen Aksu in Onno Tunç's orchestra; in 1987 she entered the Turkish Eurovision finals with Harun Kolçak and won first prizes at several domestic music competitions. Backed by Aksu, she released her debut album Sevgiliye in 1990, which made her one of the leading Turkish pop stars of the decade, followed by albums such as Hesap Ver, Sıramı Bekliyorum and Karaçiçeğim. A duet with Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama also made her popular across the Arab world. As an actress she played Fikriye Hanım in the series Kurtuluş and appeared in series like Dadı, Bayanlar Baylar and Bodrum Masalı, as well as the film Ömerçip (2003). In 2006 she married actor Haluk Bilginer.
