Yılmaz Atadeniz — Biography

Born Ragıp Yılmaz Atadeniz on 1 February 1932 in Istanbul, the director died in the Sarıyer district of the same city on 13 December 2023 and was laid to rest at Aşiyan Asri Cemetery. After finishing Kabataş Erkek Lisesi, he entered the film industry in 1951 at the encouragement of his brother Orhan Atadeniz, working as an editor and assistant to Yeşilçam veterans such as Faruk Kenç, Atıf Yılmaz, Nejat Saydam, and Sırrı Gültekin.

He made his directorial debut in 1963 with 'Yedi Kocalı Hürmüz' and went on to direct nearly eighty films through 1997, becoming known for adapting Hollywood-style science-fiction and western genres to Turkish cinema despite the era's limited resources. Also active as a screenwriter and producer, Atadeniz headed Turkey's Cinema Work Owners' Professional Union (SE-SAM) and received the Golden Orange Lifetime Achievement Award during his career.
