Dormitory (Yurt)

Yurt (internationally titled Dormitory) is a 2023 Turkish-German-French coming-of-age drama, written and directed by Nehir Tuna in his feature debut.

The story follows 14-year-old Ahmet, who is placed by his father — recently drawn to religious observance — in a boys' religious dormitory. Cut off from the warmth of his own household, Ahmet forms a close bond with Hakan, an older resident of the dormitory, as he navigates the pressures of school and his new surroundings.

The film had its world premiere in the Horizons section of the 80th Venice Film Festival in 2023, and went on to screen in the national competition of the Istanbul Film Festival as well as at festivals in Sofia, Gothenburg, and Tallinn.
