Tripoli, Beautiful Land of Love

Tripoli, Beautiful Land of Love (Italian: Tripoli, bel suol d'amore) is a 1954 Italian war comedy directed by Ferruccio Cerio and starring Alberto Sordi. The film borrows its name from a traditional song heard prominently in the soundtrack, and its storyline takes early inspiration from The Three Musketeers.

The story unfolds against the Libyan War fought between Italy and the Ottoman Empire in 1911. A young countryman volunteers for the Bersaglieri, only to run afoul of three domineering fellow soldiers. The trio, all smitten with Maria, the marshal's daughter, resent the recruit after she takes an interest in him, though in time the four men become close comrades. When the conflict erupts, they ship out to fight in Tripoli, joined by Maria, who has signed on with the Red Cross. Shot in Ferraniacolor, the film earned roughly 248 million lire at the Italian box office.
