The Police Serve the Citizens?

Directed by Romolo Guerrieri, this 1973 Italian-French co-production blends elements of the giallo and poliziottesco genres and unfolds in the city of Genoa. The screenplay was written by Arduino Maiuri and Massimo De Rita. Venantino Venantini and Gabriella Giorgelli appear in the cast, alongside performers such as Enrico Maria Salerno, John Steiner and Daniel Gélin. Known in its original Italian as La polizia è al servizio del cittadino?, the picture was distributed internationally under the title The Police Serve the Citizens? and stands as a representative example of the Italian crime cinema of its era. In German-speaking countries it did not surface until 1989, when it was first broadcast on television under the title Auf verlorenem Posten.
