The Mentalist is an American police procedural drama created by Bruno Heller, which aired on CBS from September 23, 2008 to February 18, 2015, running for seven seasons and 151 episodes. The series centers on Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), a former self-proclaimed psychic medium who now works as an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Jane openly admits that his supposed paranormal gifts were faked; what he truly possesses is an extraordinary talent for observation, deduction, and manipulation, which he uses to read people and crack murder cases.

Working alongside Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and her team, Jane's disregard for protocol and penchant for theatrical stunts constantly test his boss's patience, even as his unorthodox methods repeatedly solve the unit's toughest investigations. After the CBI is disbanded in later seasons, Jane continues his consulting work with the FBI in Texas. The role earned Simon Baker a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a drama series.
