The Knights of the Quest

The Knights of the Quest (original Italian title: I cavalieri che fecero l'impresa) is a 2001 French-Italian epic adventure and historical drama film directed and written by Pupi Avati. Set in medieval Europe, the story follows a group of knights who embark on a perilous journey in the name of a sacred relic. Along the way they face betrayal, trials of faith and deadly obstacles that test both their fellowship and their devotion to the mission. The film features an international ensemble cast that includes Edward Furlong, Raoul Bova, Thomas Kretschmann, Marco Leonardi, Stanislas Merhar, F. Murray Abraham, Carlo Delle Piane and Edmund Purdom. Shot in Italian and running roughly two and a half hours, the production aims to recreate its period setting on a broad scale. The film marked a departure for Avati, who is otherwise known for more intimate, personal works, as he turned here to a large-scale historical adventure. It blends the familiar motifs of knightly quest tales with the distinctive sensibility of Italian cinema.
