My Best Enemy

My Best Enemy (original German title Mein bester Feind) is a 2011 Austrian-Luxembourgian film directed by Wolfgang Murnberger. Murnberger co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Hengge, adapting Hengge's novel about how Victor Kaufmann managed to survive Hitler after all. The German-language film runs 109 minutes and opened in Austria on 11 March 2011 and in Germany on 1 September 2011.

Set in Vienna during the Second World War, the story follows childhood friends Victor Kaufmann and Rudi Smekal, whose bond is torn apart by the new political order: the Jewish Victor and his family are sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp while Rudi rises in the SS. When a Michelangelo drawing seized from the Kaufmann collection proves to be a fake, Victor's fate changes, and after a plane crash the two former friends swap roles. The cast includes Moritz Bleibtreu, Georg Friedrich, Marthe Keller and Uwe Bohm.
