Mommo the Bogeyman (Mommo: Kız Kardeşim)
Mommo: Kız Kardeşim (English: Mommo the Bogeyman) is a 2009 Turkish drama film written, produced and directed by Atalay Taşdiken. Released nationwide in Turkey on 17 April 2009, it portrays the dramatic lives of two siblings living in a village in the Beyşehir district of Konya.
After their mother dies and their father's new wife rejects them, nine-year-old Ahmet and seven-year-old Ayşe find refuge with their grandfather, but the old man's inability to care for them leads to a painful separation. Inspired by a true event, the film treats the bond between brother and sister, childhood in village life and the indifference of adults with a simple narrative style. Noted for its child actors' performances and emotional depth, the film won the Audience Award at the Würzburg International Filmweekend and received nominations in several categories at the 3rd Yeşilçam Awards.
