Malina

Malina is a 1991 German-Austrian drama directed by Werner Schroeter, adapted by Elfriede Jelinek from Ingeborg Bachmann's 1971 novel of the same name. Shot in French and German and running roughly 125 minutes, it screened in competition at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival.

Isabelle Huppert, Mathieu Carrière, and Can Togay (as Ivan) lead the cast in a story centered on a young writer living in Vienna whose settled life with her supportive companion Malina is upended after she meets a man named Ivan, drawing the three of them into a tangled, passionate entanglement.
