Le Triporteur

Le Triporteur, a 1957 French comedy centered on cycling and sport, was directed by Jack Pinoteau and adapted from a novel of the same name by René Fallet. Jean Aurel wrote the screenplay. Filming took place partly at the Victorine Studios in Nice, with additional scenes shot around the city, including at the Stade du Ray stadium, and further location work carried out in Burgundy.

Production designer Jacques Douy handled the film's sets. Comic actor Darry Cowl headlines the picture in the role that first made him a household name with French audiences; decades later, obituary coverage of his 2006 death referenced this particular film more than any other of his credits. Jean-Claude Brialy and Jess Hahn also appear among the cast, alongside Béatrice Altariba. The story proved popular enough to spawn a follow-up picture, Monsieur Robinson Crusoe, released three years later in 1960. The comedy remains best remembered today as Cowl's breakthrough vehicle rather than for any lasting reputation of its own.
