Le Chant du monde

Le Chant du monde is a 1965 French-Italian drama film directed by Marcel Camus. It is an adaptation of the 1934 novel of the same name by French author Jean Giono, and its story unfolds among the big farming families of southern France.

The leading roles are played by Hardy Krüger, Charles Vanel and Catherine Deneuve, with Marilù Tolo and Michel Charrel also appearing in the cast. Giono himself had written a screenplay in 1942 for a planned film version of his novel, a project he later abandoned; that discarded script was published in 1980 in the first volume of his cinematic works. Camus ultimately shot his film on a different adaptation, likewise based on a screenplay written by Giono. The film runs for about 109 minutes.
