Klondike

Klondike (Ukrainian: Клондайк) is a 2022 Ukrainian-Turkish co-production drama written, directed, and edited by Maryna Er Gorbach. The story unfolds on July 17, 2014, in the village of Grabove in the Donetsk region, right by the Russian border. Irka and Tolik, who are expecting their first child, see their lives upended by the war in Donbas and the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17; even when armed groups seize the village, Irka refuses to abandon her home. Oksana Cherkashyna stars, joined by Serhiy Shadrin as Tolik and Oleg Shcherbina as Yurik.

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2022, where it won the World Cinema Dramatic directing award. It placed second in the Panorama Audience Award at the Berlin International Film Festival and was selected as Ukraine's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
