Inspector De Luca

Inspector De Luca (Italian: Il commissario De Luca) is a four-part Italian miniseries based on Carlo Lucarelli's detective novel trilogy published between 1990 and 1996. Directed by Antonio Frazzi, it aired on Rai 1 in April and May 2008.

The story unfolds across the decade from 1938 to 1948. Amid Italy's upheaval, from the last years of Fascism into the chaotic postwar period, Detective De Luca keeps doing the one job he understands: police work. He solves murders in war-scarred Bologna and on the Adriatic coast, paying little attention to whoever currently holds power. His distant, unbending character, the effect he has on women, and his insistence on digging out the truth no matter the cost repeatedly bring him into conflict with the authorities of the moment. The result is a portrait of an investigator who refuses to bend. Alessandro Preziosi plays the lead, with Kasia Smutniak also in the cast.
