Hundra
Hundra is a 1983 sword-and-sandal fantasy, with action and adventure elements, directed and co-written by Matt Cimber. A co-production of Spain, Italy and the United States, it was distributed in the US by Film Ventures International on August 1, 1983, and in Germany it circulates as Warrior Queen. Over the years it has come to be regarded as a cult film.
Laurene Landon stars as the Amazonian warrior Hundra, born into a fierce tribe of warrior women and raised to despise the influence of men and to belittle them. A skilled archer and swordswoman, she is a match for any man. One day she finds her family massacred and sets out on a great quest for revenge, a struggle that lasts until she finds a mate who is her equal. The cast also includes Cihangir Gaffari (Nepakin), who produced the film, Tamara (Chrysula), Victor Gans (Landrazza), María Casal and Ramiro Oliveros.
Critics were divided. Some praised it as a cheerful, thrilling, comic-book style sword-and-sandal fantasy, while others found the action and Landon's performance artificial and saw only camp value in it. Another reviewer called Landon a standout action actress and compared the film to Xena. It is also counted among the undervalued films of its era.
