George Who?

George Who? (George qui ?) is a 1973 French biographical film written and directed by Michèle Rosier. Anne Wiazemsky, Alain Libolt and Denis Gunsbourg head the cast, which also features performers such as Yves Rénier, Bulle Ogier, Roger Planchon and Jean-Pierre Kalfon. The philosopher Gilles Deleuze makes an on-screen appearance as well.

The picture portrays the life of George Sand, the renowned nineteenth-century French novelist who wrote under a male pen name and defied the social expectations of her era. Running about 110 minutes, the film brings the writer's story to the screen through Rosier's distinctly personal sensibility, and it stands among the more unconventional literary biographies produced by French cinema in the early 1970s.
