Frantic

Released in 1988, Frantic is a French-American neo-noir mystery thriller directed by Roman Polanski, who co-wrote the screenplay with Gérard Brach and Robert Towne. Set in Paris, the film follows American surgeon Richard Walker, who arrives with his wife Sondra for a medical conference. When their suitcases are accidentally swapped at the airport and his wife vanishes from their hotel room, Walker finds the police and the American embassy reluctant to help, leaving him to search the city alone. The clues hidden in the wrong suitcase lead him into the Parisian underworld and force him into an uneasy alliance with Michelle, a streetwise young woman tied to the mix-up. Their investigation pulls them into a web of smuggling and international intrigue. Harrison Ford and Emmanuelle Seigner star, with a score by Ennio Morricone that has often been singled out for praise. Though the film failed commercially on release, critics responded warmly, and its reputation has grown into that of a cult classic.
