Frankenstein
USA Network aired Frankenstein, an American television film, in 2004. Mixing horror, science fiction and thriller, it runs about 84 minutes. Marcus Nispel both directed and produced it from a screenplay by John Shiban. It first aired on 10 October 2004 and, drawing loosely on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, moves the old story into the present day.
The events unfold in present-day New Orleans. Parker Posey plays a police detective on the trail of a serial killer, played by Thomas Kretschmann. The person who helps her in the search is one of the killer's own creations, played by Vincent Perez. The cast also includes Adam Goldberg, Ivana Miličević, Michael Madsen, David Jensen and Stocker Fontelieu.
The film was meant as the pilot of an ongoing series. It started from an idea by Dean Koontz, drawn from his Victor Helios novels about Frankenstein, but when USA Network and the producers asked for major changes to the concept, Koontz lost interest and stepped away. He later turned the idea into a book series, Dean Koontz's Frankenstein. Executive producer Martin Scorsese also said he wished to leave the project, and the planned series was never made.
