Don Cesare di Bazan

Don Cesare di Bazan is a 1942 Italian historical adventure film directed by Riccardo Freda. Adapted from the 1844 stage play of the same name by Dumanoir and Adolphe d'Ennery, it was Freda's first feature as a director; he would later become one of the most successful figures in Italian commercial cinema.

The story unfolds in seventeenth-century Spain during the Catalan Revolt and belongs to the swashbuckling tradition of cloak-and-sword adventures. Gino Cervi, Anneliese Uhlig and Paolo Stoppa head the cast, which also includes Guido Celano. The film opened in Italy on 4 October 1942. Two decades later Freda returned to the same material with a loose 1962 remake titled Sept épées pour le roi.
