DJ Ahmet

DJ Ahmet (Macedonian: Диџеј Ахмет) is a 2025 drama film written and directed by Georgi M. Unkovski. A co-production of Czechia, North Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia, the film's original language is Turkish; its music was composed by Alen Sinkauz and Nenad Sinkauz.

The film follows Ahmet (Arif Jakup), a 15-year-old boy living in a rural village in North Macedonia. Falling in love for the first time and wanting to become a DJ, Ahmet also has to cope with the conservatism of his village. The cast further includes Agush Agushev, Dora Akan Zlatanova, Aksel Mehmet, Selpin Kerim and Atila Klince as the muezzin.

Following Unkovski's 2019 short film Sticker, the project took five years to come to fruition; its financing was secured between 2021 and 2023, and shooting was completed in 36 days at the end of 2023 in the villages of Kodžalija and Ali Koč and in Skopje. With a budget of 978,000 euros, the film was supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency, Eurimages, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Film Center Serbia, the Czech Film Fund and the South Eastern Europe Cinema Network. The film had its world premiere on 23 January 2025 in the World Cinema Competition section of the Sundance Film Festival, where it won that section's Audience Award. It was also screened at the Sydney, Sarajevo and Stockholm film festivals.
