Oh, This Youth!
Ah Bu Gençlik (Oh, This Youth!) is a 1976 Turkish-Iranian co-production, a comedy and sentimental film shot in colour on 35 mm and running 97 minutes. Berker İnanoğlu produced it for Sezer Film, and Tuncay Ural was the director of photography. It came out in Turkey as Ah Bu Gençlik and in Iran as Khanoum Delesh Motour Mikhad. It is the second version of a film of the same name made in 1975, with Gülşen Bubikoğlu and Mesut Engin. The screenplay is by Ertem Göreç, and the direction is credited to Ertem Göreç together with Jamshid Sheybani.
At the centre is Cemile (Pouri Banayi), a young fisherwoman who lives with her grandfather and dreams of owning a motorboat, saving money toward it. Her grandfather Salih knows fishing will never pay for an engine, so he sells the tavern he runs and gives the money to Cemile, sending her to Istanbul to buy the boat. Things go in unplanned directions once she gets there. On the way she meets Cemal (Miri), the gambling grandson of a rich businessman, and the two are swept into comic adventures.
The cast also includes Hulusi Kentmen, Nubar Terziyan, Sami Hazinses, Tuncer Necmioğlu, Süheyl Eğriboz and Bahman Mofid as Tarık.
