Absolument fabuleux

Absolument fabuleux is a 2001 French comedy helmed by Gabriel Aghion, with a screenplay he wrote together with François-Olivier Rousseau and Rémi Waterhouse. It is a big-screen version of the hit British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, devised by Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French, poking fun at the vanities and extravagance of the fashion milieu.

Leading roles go to Josiane Balasko, Nathalie Baye, Marie Gillain and Claude Gensac. Echoing the Lulu figure from the television original, the French singer Chantal Goya turns up playing herself. Series creator Jennifer Saunders also makes a fleeting appearance, as a guest at a runway event sitting next to Catherine Deneuve.

The picture was made under the StudioCanal banner and reached French theatres on 29 August 2001. Its running time is roughly 105 minutes, carrying the small-screen favourites' taste for luxury and excess over to the cinema.
