Abgeschnitten

Abgeschnitten (known in English as Cut Off) is a 2018 German thriller directed by Christian Alvart, who also wrote the screenplay. The film sets its story in the world of forensic medicine and tells it at the pace of a crime thriller. In France it is known as L'Inciseur, and its Russian title translates as "A Call to the Dead".

It is based on the novel of the same name by Sebastian Fitzek and the forensic pathologist Michael Tsokos. The plot begins when forensic doctor Paul Herzfeld finds a capsule inside the head of a badly mutilated corpse, containing a telephone number and a single word. The find drags him into a deadly race to follow a trail of clues against the clock. Moritz Bleibtreu, Jasna Fritzi Bauer, Lars Eidinger and Fahri Yardım are the film's main cast, with Enno Hesse, Barbara Prakopenka, Niels Bruno Schmidt and Joy Maria Bai also appearing.
