Şoray Uzun — Biography
Turkish television figure Şoray Uzun is known both as an actor and as a presenter. The role that brought him to a wide audience was Ahmet in Seksenler, which ran on TRT 1 from 2012 to 2022. He now writes a column for the newspaper Posta.
His career began in 1987 with Belene, a series about the emigration of Bulgaria's Turkish minority. He went on to appear in the films Yalnızlık Bir Şarkıdır, Salıncakta Üç Kişi, Denize Hançer Düştü and Cumhuriyet, and through the 1990s in series such as İz Peşinde, Mahallenin Muhtarları, Bizim Ev and Baskül Ailesi, most memorably as Kültigin in Kaygısızlar. On Süt Kardeşler he took on both the script and the direction. From the 2000s he moved toward hosting, making the programmes Şoray Uzun Yolda and Saha Dışı, then presenting the quiz shows Cevap Soruda on TRT 1 in 2013 and 7 de 7 on ATV in 2014. In 2020 he acted in Ev Yapımı, a series shot at home during the lockdown.
Born in Razgrad, Bulgaria, Uzun moved with his family to Adana in 1974, finished high school in Istanbul and graduated from the Radio-TV Department of Marmara University's Faculty of Communication. He has said that he took his stage name from Türkan Şoray, an actress he admired. He married in 1998 and has three children.
