Sinem Ünsal — Biography

Sinem Özenç Ünsal is a Turkish actress born in Izmir on June 21, 1993. Building her career mainly around television series, Ünsal's professional areas also include film, television and stage acting, as well as modeling. Appearing on screen without interruption since 2017, she quickly rose to the lead casts of some of Turkey's most-watched series productions.

Ünsal completed her education in the Department of Comparative Literature at Osmangazi University, then turned to acting after university, building her professional skills through private acting lessons rather than conservatory training. This educational path, rooted in literature, resulted in her career beginning directly on television sets.

Her screen journey began in 2017. Appearing on camera for the first time with the series Çoban Yıldızı, she appeared in this production alongside names such as Şükrü Özyıldız, Selin Şekerci, Selim Bayraktar, and Aysun Metiner. That same year she brought the character Gülsüm Aslan to life in the series Siyah Beyaz Aşk; starring İbrahim Çelikkol and Birce Akalay, this production was one of the first works in which Ünsal was widely noticed. In 2018 she played the teacher Sevgi Günay in the series Kızım, broadcast on Tv8; the series, featuring Buğra Gülsoy, Beren Gökyıldız, Leyla Lydia Tuğutlu, Serhat Teoman, and Tugay Mercan, markedly increased her recognition.

The turning point of her career came in 2019. Appearing before viewers as Doctor Nazlı Gülengül in the series Mucize Doktor, directed by Yusuf Pirhasan and Yağız Alp Akaydın, Ünsal became known outside Turkey as well through this production, which also featured Onur Tuna, Reha Özcan, Hayal Köseoğlu, Murat Aygen, Seda Bakan, Merve Dizdar, and Hakan Kurtaş. The character Nazlı is cited in encyclopedia entries in different languages as the actress's best-known role.

In 2022 she appeared in Gizli Saklı alongside Bülent Emrah Parlak, credited in this production under two separate characters, Naz Arıca and Yaz Güneş. The year 2024 passed with two projects at once: in Senden Önce she played Merve Dağıstan, alongside Altan Erkekli, Nilperi Şahinkaya, Tansel Öngel, Nalan Kuruçim, and Uğur Uzunel.

The same year she began bringing the character Alya Albora to life in the series Uzak Şehir, which also started that year. Featuring Ozan Akbaba, Müfit Kayacan, Gonca Cilasun, Ceren Moray, Nihat Altınkaya, Ferit Kaya, and Sahra Şaş, the production became one of the most talked-about works of her career; Ünsal is often referred to in the press through this role as "Uzak Şehir's Alya." The actress has an older sister, Gizem Ünsal, who has made entertainment headlines because of her resemblance to her.
