Sedef Ecer — Biography
Sedef Ecer (born 30 May 1965, Istanbul) is a Turkish-French novelist, playwright, theatre director and screenwriter. She studied at Boğaziçi University and Galatasaray High School before completing her theatrical training at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris. As a child, she appeared in film productions such as İki Başlı Dev before turning to writing.
Writing in both Turkish and French, Ecer has had her plays translated into numerous languages and received a French literary award in 2008. Her first novel was published in 2021, the same year she wrote an essay for Le Monde on Turkey's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.
Based in France, Ecer periodically returns to Turkey as a guest of the Institut français to meet readers in cities such as Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir.
