Nur Subaşı — Biography

Born Mustafa Nur Subaşı on 6 June 1941 in İnegöl, Bursa, he graduated from the advanced program of the Ankara State Conservatory and began his career at the Ankara State Theatre. When the Istanbul State Theatre was founded in 1979, he was among its first appointees. Beyond the stage, he became one of Turkish dubbing's most familiar voices during the 2000s and 2010s, lending his voice to the Turkish versions of dozens of Hollywood films including Ghostbusters, Hugo, the X-Men series, and the Asterix films. He is especially remembered for voicing the opening theme of the Smurfs cartoon broadcast on Kanal D.

While on holiday in Thessaloniki in March 2018, Subaşı fell ill and was hospitalized with pneumonia; he died in intensive care on 10 March 2018. Following a memorial at Üsküdar's Tekel Stage on 12 March and funeral prayers at Şakirin Mosque, he was buried at Karacaahmet Cemetery. He had been married to actress Defne Yalnız for three months.
