Mahmut Gökgöz — Biography
Mahmut Gökgöz was born on March 6, 1951, in Istanbul. After graduating from the Ankara State Conservatory Theatre Department in 1975 he joined the Istanbul City Theatres; when he was dismissed in 1980 under Law No. 1402 he went abroad, continuing his stage career in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden alongside figures such as Tuncel Kurtiz, Ayşe Emel Mesçi and Serpil İnanç, and founding and directing the Paris Youth Theatre in 1990.
He returned to Turkey in 1992, joined the Izmir State Theatre and taught theatre at Dokuz Eylül University, before being appointed to the Istanbul State Theatre in 1998. On screen he became known for the films Korkuyorum Anne (2004) and the widely acclaimed Babam ve Oğlum (2005), and over the following years appeared in numerous television series including Doktorlar, Ezel, Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu, Karagül and Avrupa Yakası.
According to Turkish media reports from 2025, the veteran actor, now in his mid-seventies, has been living in a care home due to health problems and uses a wheelchair; his family made a public appeal for support.
