Mahmut Gökgöz — Biography

From the state theatre stage to years abroad and then on to television: that has been the path of Mahmut Gökgöz, a Turkish stage, film and television actor, director and teacher. Wide audiences know him mostly as İbrahim in the film Babam ve Oğlum (2005) and from supporting roles in many series.

After graduating from the Ankara State Conservatory Theatre Department he joined the City Theatres, working as actor, director and stage ironworker. In 1980 his post was ended under Law No. 1402 and he went abroad, working in theatre in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden with artists such as Tuncel Kurtiz, Ayşe Emel Mesçi and Serpil İnanç; in 1990 he founded and directed the Paris Youth Theatre. Back in Turkey he joined the Izmir State Theatres and taught theatre at the Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts. In 1998 he was appointed to the Istanbul State Theatre, appearing in plays including Küçük Adam Ne Oldu Sana, Amadeus and Ben Ruhi Bey Nasılım, and he also directed at private institutions such as MSM and Tiyatro Ayna.

From the mid-2000s he was a frequent screen presence: in cinema in Korkuyorum Anne (2004), Babam ve Oğlum and Press; on television in Doktorlar, Avrupa Yakası, Ezel, Akasya Durağı, Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu and Karagül.
