Jean-Pierre Lorit — Biography
Jean-Pierre Lorit is a French actor who has worked on screen and stage since 1983. Audiences know him best as Auguste in Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colors: Red (1994). Since then he has built a long career that runs from cinema to television and the theatre.
Born in Paris, he trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique. He reached the screen in the mid-1980s with Jake Speed, and in the early 1990s joined Jacques Rivette's Joan the Maiden, Part 2: The Prisons. After Three Colors: Red he played Christophe in Claude Sautet's Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud (1995) and Florent in Yves Angelo's An Air So Pure (1997). André Téchiné's Alice et Martin (1998), Bernard Rapp's Une affaire de goût (2000, as Nicolas Rivière) and James Ivory's The White Countess (2005) followed.
In 2005 he took the stage in August Strindberg's Créanciers, directed by Hélène Vincent with Lambert Wilson and Emmanuelle Devos; the performance earned him a nomination for best supporting role at the 2006 Molière Awards. Devos is his wife. Later he kept working in productions such as Tell No One (2006), They Call It Summer (2012) and Paolo Franchi's Dove non ho mai abitato (2017).
