Hüseyin Alp — Biography
Hüseyin Alp was born on May 12, 1935, in the Kangal district of Sivas, Turkey. Standing 2.15 meters (7 ft 1 in) tall, he ranked among the tallest Turkish basketball players of his era. He took up the sport relatively late, at age 26, playing for Istanbul Technical University and Altınordu, and went on to earn 73 caps with the Turkish national team.
Alongside his basketball career, Alp appeared as a supporting actor in several Yeşilçam productions of the 1960s and 1970s, including Kara Murat: Şeyh Gaffar'a Karşı and Tarkan: Viking Kanı; his height made him a natural fit for the action and sword-and-sandal films of the period.
He died on January 8, 1983, in Istanbul.
