Gani Müjde — Biography

Gani Müjde is one of the people who carried humour from the printed page to television and cinema in Turkey: he has worked as a cartoonist, writer, screenwriter, director and presenter, and since the 1990s he has counted among the most prolific writers of Turkish television comedy. Most recently, in 2026, he returned to cinema with Başıbozuklar, which also stars Gözde Kansu.

His path ran through the humour magazines. In high school he began working at Gırgır, where he had first gone to draw cartoons, and stayed with Gırgır and Fırt for nearly eight years; he served for a time as editor of Laklak, then founded Limon with friends and wrote its "Peynir Gemisi" column. While studying cinema and television at Mimar Sinan University he took classes from teachers such as Lütfi Akad and Halit Refiğ. His script for Arabesk became one of the most-watched Turkish films of its day. He founded the writing and production company Tükenmezkalem and presented the daily interview programme Gündem Dışı on NTV.

His real breakthrough in cinema was Kahpe Bizans, which he wrote with Kemal Kenan Ergen and Fatih Solmaz and directed. He went on to write or produce series such as Akasya Pasajı, Yahşi Cazibe, Pis Yedili and Ankara'nın Dikmeni, and published books including Peynir Gemisi and Bendeki Kulak Van Gogh'ta Yok. He remains in the news for his social media comments on current affairs.
