Born Farrokh Lagha Poursol, Farrokhlagha Houshmand came from Rasht, where she was born on 16 March 1929; she died on 13 July 2009, having built a career across Iranian film, television, and theatre.
She appeared in more than seventy films over her career, frequently cast as a mother or elder relative figure. Her credits stretch from the 1957 picture Ladder of Progress through Dozd va Paseban, The Tiger from Mazandaran, The Roar of the Storm, The World Is Mine, Kaj Kola Khan, Golpari Joon, Feri Dast Ghashang, Joys of Our Life, Mina and Goncheh, Dear Wednesday, and The Silent Hunt, with a later role on the 2001 series The Lamp of Magic.
