Deniz Hasgüler — Biography

Ankara-born Deniz Hasgüler is one of the younger-generation actresses who came to prominence through the films of Reha Erdem. She first appeared on screen in Jîn, a leading role that earned her a series of awards, and worked with Erdem again on her second film, Şarkı Söyleyen Kadınlar. Her filmography is short, and her name is still linked to those two films.

Her career can be read in two stages. In the first, she took the lead in Jîn, released in 2013, playing the character of the same name, and won Best Young Actor at the Buster Film Festival in Copenhagen for it. She was also named Best Young Actor at the Bilkent University Film Festival (Sinefest). The Türkan Şoray Promising Actress Award of the 20th International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival followed after this first period.

The second stage is Şarkı Söyleyen Kadınlar, released in 2014. She played Meryem, one of the leads, in a cast that included Binnur Kaya and Philip Arditti. This work brought her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Ankara Film Festival. The film was also shown in Berlin. Reha Erdem directed both productions.
