Demir Demirkan — Biography

Demir Demirkan is a versatile musician whose work runs from rock guitar to production, songwriting and, lately, fiction. He is best known as one of the writers and composers of "Everyway That I Can", the song that gave Turkey its Eurovision win in 2003. Today he continues with his solo albums and with Pentagram, the band he rejoined, while also working as an author.

His career began in 1990 when, while studying English Language and Literature at Bilkent University, he joined Pentagram as guitarist. After the band's album Trail Blazer he moved to Los Angeles to study at the Musicians Institute, where he recorded in many styles. Returning to Istanbul in 1996, he produced Şebnem Ferah's Kadın and Sertab Erener's Sertab Gibi; as production took over, he left Pentagram. In 2000 he released his first solo album with Sony Music, followed by albums such as Dünya Benim and Ateş Yağmurunda Çırılçıplak. With Erener he also made the international project Painted on Water. Beyond music, he played the lead in the series 5'i Bir Yerde in 2002 and appeared as a guest in Muhteşem Yüzyıl in 2011.

In 2009 he won the SİYAD Best Film Score Award for his music for Devrim Arabaları, and he also composed for a documentary on Gallipoli. He rejoined Pentagram in 2017. In May 2026 he released an album of the same name inspired by his first novel, Zamanda Saklı, published in 2024.
