Dariush AsadZadeh — Biography

Dariush Asadzadeh (November 1923 - 25 August 2019) was an Iranian actor, writer and director whose work in theatre, cinema and television spanned more than six decades. His family came from Tehran, but he was born in Kermanshah because his father was posted there as a soldier. He held the first-class Order of Culture and Art of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He began performing at the age of twenty and was attached to the Nasr Theatre in Tehran as actor, playwright and director. During the 1960s and 1970s he appeared in more than fifty feature films, among them Mr. Twentieth Century (1964), Shookhi Nakon Delkhor Misham (1966) and Amoo Sabzi Foroosh (1967).

In 1976 he left Iran and spent ten years in the United States, returning in 1986 and joining the casts of two television series, Samandun and Khaneh Sabz. His work in Mohammad Shirvani's short film Dayereh was picked by the international critics at Cannes in 1999. Through the 2010s he concentrated on writing books about the history of theatre in Iran and about Tehran itself. He died in Tehran at the age of 96.
