Cansever — Biography

Born Dzansever Dalipova, Cansever was a singer and songwriter from North Macedonia who reached a wide audience in Turkey with her arabesque songs and folk-song interpretations. She held both North Macedonian and Turkish citizenship. She died in Essen, Germany, on 8 August 2026, aged 59, and was buried in her hometown, Köprülü.

She was born on 8 July 1967 in Köprülü (Veles), then part of Yugoslav Macedonia, the youngest of seven children. She was drawn to music from childhood and released her first album in her home country in 1992. Her turning point in Turkey came in 1997, when she sang the Yemeni folk song Kara Çadır on İbo Show, hosted by İbrahim Tatlıses; the same year she began her Turkish career with the album Meçhul. Her 1998 album Cemalim and her own take on the folk song of the same name introduced her to a large audience; Yollar Hasta Ben Yorgunum followed in 2000.

After the 2006 album Farklı Yorum she released nothing for a long time, and returned to attention in 2013 with Hey Denysha. The albums Ben Ne Günler Gördüm (2014), Hala Seviyorum (2015) and Doya Doya Arabesk (2016) followed, and "Kime Bu İnat" became a hit with millions of plays. She recorded the duets "Yenildik" with Haktan (2017) and "Son Ütücü" with Barış (2018); in 2019 "Havalı Geliyor", performed with Kobra Murat and DJ Yılmaz, became popular again after being used in the series Çukur.
