Aydın Sayman — Biography

Born on 1 February 1953 in Malatya, Aydın Sayman is a Turkish director, screenwriter and producer who graduated from the Business Administration department of Istanbul University's Faculty of Economics in 1978.

Between 1971 and 1973 he worked as an assistant editor at the Sinematek and wrote film criticism for publications such as Milliyet Sanat Dergisi, 7. Sanat, Gösteri and Edebiyat 81, later publishing his own cinema magazine, Gerçek Sinema. Through the 1970s and 1980s he assisted numerous directors on set, and between 1976 and 1983 he directed television commercials.

Sayman also produced documentaries and music videos before taking the director's chair with Güneşteki Leke (1986). He went on to direct, and in several cases write or produce, films including Sır Çocukları (2002), Cemalim (2005), Janjan (2006) and İçimdeki İnsan (2014), and served as a consultant on Eve Dönüş. Janjan won a best film award at a Ukrainian festival in 2009.
