Zafer Karatay — Biography
Zafer Karatay is a Turkish journalist, columnist, and documentary filmmaker of Crimean Tatar descent, born on October 2, 1958, in Ankara. He serves as the Turkey representative of the Crimean Tatar National Assembly (Mejlis) and, after retiring from Turkish state broadcaster TRT, has continued to produce documentary work on Crimean Tatar history and the diaspora.
A longtime figure in the Crimean Tatar national movement, Karatay holds honorary membership in the Crimean Tatar Writers' Union and the Turkish Journalists Association, and has received Ukraine's 25th Independence Anniversary medal as well as a badge of honor for services to the Crimean Tatar people. He regularly speaks at panels and conferences on Crimean Tatar history and current affairs.
