Yonca Evcimik — Biography

Fatma Yonca Evcimik (born 16 September 1963 in Istanbul) is a Turkish pop singer, dancer, actress and presenter, affectionately nicknamed "Yoncimik" by her fans.

She began her artistic life in 1977 with children's theatre and trained at the ballet department of the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. Joining the Şan Theatre in 1979, she spent five years dancing and acting in productions such as Yedi Kocalı Hürmüz and Carmen, and from 1985 to 1988 she performed at the Devekuşu Kabare Theatre.

Her 1991 debut album Abone sold around 2.8 million copies and made her one of the leading Turkish pop stars of the 1990s. It was followed by albums including Kendine Gel (1993), I'm Hot For You (1995), Günaha Davet (1998) and Herkes Baksın Dalgasına (2001); the song Tatlı Kaçık earned her the Best Female Pop Artist award at the 1998 Kral TV Video Music Awards. On screen she appeared in the films Hababam Sınıfı Güle Güle (1981), Kızlar Sınıfı (1984) and Bay E (1995), and won a wide following as the star of the long-running series Çılgın Bediş (1996).
