Yıldız İbrahimova — Biography

Yıldız İbrahimova is a Bulgarian singer and jazz musician of Turkish descent, born on April 8, 1952, in Silistra, Bulgaria. She began studying music as a child, taking piano lessons at the Sofia Children's Music School before continuing at the Sofia Music High School and the State Academy of Music. Renowned internationally for a four-octave vocal range and a gift for improvisation, she has built her career on jazz while also recording Bulgarian, Turkish, Romani and Russian folk material, and has toured more than forty countries across Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and Africa.

In 1993 she married Ali Dinçer, a politician also born in Bulgaria who had served as mayor of Ankara, and settled in Turkey, where she has lived ever since; he died in 2007. Her standing in the jazz world was underscored again at the end of 2025, when she received an honorary plaque at the Ankara International Jazz Festival.
