Yavuz Çetin — Biography

Born Yavuz Hilmi Çetin on 25 September 1970 in Samsun, he was a guitarist, songwriter, composer and singer whose distinctive style made him one of the most influential figures in Turkish rock and Anatolian blues.

Çetin began playing traditional stringed instruments as a child before turning to guitar in his teens, and in 1990 he co-founded Blue Blues Band in Istanbul with fellow musicians Batu Mutlugil, Zafer Şanlı and Kerim Çaplı, performing widely on the festival circuit through the 1990s. After meeting producer Fuat Güner, he became an in-demand studio guitarist, contributing to numerous artists' recordings before releasing his own debut solo album, İlk, in 1997.

While recording his second album in 2000, Çetin battled severe depression, a struggle worsened when an economic crisis delayed the record's release. He died by suicide on 15 August 2001, jumping from the Bosphorus Bridge; his completed second album, Satılık, was released posthumously three months later. His legacy has continued to resurface in recent years, including the 2026 release of previously unheard material recorded in Bodrum, issued under the title The Bodrum Sessions.
