Yağmur Sarıgül — Biography

Yağmur "Yamyam" Sarıgül is a founder, electric guitarist and songwriter of maNga, one of the leading names in Turkish alternative rock. He is also remembered as the producer of the song that took the band to second place at Eurovision 2010. Within maNga he has written both lyrics and music, taken part in producing the records and remains one of the group's stage figures today.

Born in Antalya and raised in Ankara in a musical family, he started his training in primary school: piano at the conservatory, violin at Bilkent, then classical guitar. He finished Ankara Anatolian Fine Arts High School and studied music at Gazi University. After playing in the bands Laterna and 6/8 he founded maNga; at the "Sing Your Song" contest the band came second while he was named most valuable member. He contributed songs to the first album, maNga, and was assistant producer on the first two albums. In 2009 the group won Europe's Favourite Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and the following year in Oslo it finished second at Eurovision with We Could Be the Same, which he produced.

In later years he released independent singles and produced an acoustic album project on his own, while the band opened a new chapter with Antroposen 001 in 2022. On stage he plays seven-string guitars and keyboards, and since 2007 he has been an endorsed artist of a guitar maker.
