Yağmur Sarıgül — Biography

Yağmur Sarıgül (born 26 August 1979 in Antalya) is a Turkish composer, songwriter and producer, and the founding electric guitarist of the rock band maNga. He is nicknamed "Yamyam". Born in Antalya, he grew up and came to music in Ankara, in a musical household in which his father played the ney and his mother the oud.

At the age of ten he was admitted to the Hacettepe University State Conservatory in both classical dance and music, and chose music. He studied violin at Bilkent University's stage arts faculty and continued with piano and guitar at the conservatory, then attended Ankara's fine arts high school before entering the music programme at Gazi University. After playing with the Ankara bands Laterna and 6/8 he founded maNga in 2001, and was named best musician at a song contest the same year.

His band won the European favourite award at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin and finished second at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo with "We Could Be the Same", which Sarıgül produced. He was assistant producer on the albums maNga and Şehr-i Hüzün; the 2022 release Antroposen 001 is among the group's later work. On stage he plays seven-string guitars and keyboards.
