Volkan Yaman — Biography

Volkan Yaman is a Munich-born Turkish former international footballer. He played in defence, mainly at left-back, and was known for his powerful shots. His date of birth is given as 27 August 1982 by most sources and as 23 March 1983 by one. He won the 2007-08 Süper Lig and the 2008 Süper Kupa with Galatasaray, and also played for Antalyaspor, Eskişehirspor and Kasımpaşa.

As a youth he played in the academies of TSV 1860 München and SC Freimann, completing vocational training and becoming a computer programmer along the way. He joined Antalyaspor in 2003 and was one of the most notable players of the side relegated in 2006-07. He was called up to Turkey's friendlies six times in 2006 and made his debut for the national side on 24 May 2006 in a 3-3 draw with Belgium in Genk. On 24 March 2007 he was called up at the last moment for the Greece game, important for the road to Euro 2008, and came on in the 19th minute for the injured İbrahim Üzülmez in Turkey's 4-1 win.

He played for Galatasaray from the summer of 2007 until August 2009. He then joined Eskişehirspor for three years without a transfer fee, and after that contract ended in May 2012 he agreed a deal with Kasımpaşa on 22 June. In 2015 he moved to Garching, in Germany's fourth tier, and he also played for SV Heimstetten.
