Volkan Kahraman — Biography
Volkan Kahraman was born on 10 October 1979 in Vienna and held Austrian citizenship while being of Turkish descent. A midfielder, he began his professional career with Feyenoord in the Netherlands, making his senior debut in November 1997 against De Graafschap. On loan at city rivals Excelsior, he scored 11 goals in 58 appearances.
He went on to play for Austria Wien, Red Bull Salzburg and LASK in Austria and for Skoda Xanthi in Greece, as well as for Trabzonspor and Erzurumspor in Turkey. He earned three caps for the Austria national team in 2002. After retiring as a player he moved into coaching, and he later entered politics, first with the GfW and, from 2017, with the ÖVP.
On 8 February 2023 he was shot dead in Vienna by a former friend, Orhan, following an argument, in what was reported as a murder-suicide.
