Veysel Turan — Biography
Veysel Turan was born in 1901 and was one of the veterans of the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923). In his later years he came to be known publicly as one of the last surviving witnesses of that war; detailed information about his birthplace and his years of military service has not survived.
His memories of the conflict were brought to the screen, alongside those of fellow veterans Ömer Küyük and Yakup Satar, in director Nesli Çölgeçen's 2008 documentary Son Buluşma. Veysel Turan died on 25 March 2007.
