Uğur Dündar — Biography

İsmail Uğur Dündar (born 28 August 1943) is a Turkish journalist, television presenter, columnist and sports administrator. His birthplace is disputed: Wikidata, the English Wikipedia and DBpedia point to the village of Akören in Istanbul's Silivri district, while the Turkish article says Fatih; the majority favours Silivri. The date of 1 January 1943 given in the German article is contradicted by every other source.

He studied at Istanbul University, recorded by Wikidata as the Faculty of Economics and by the English Wikipedia as the university's Institute of Journalism. He joined TRT in 1970 and built a reporting career spanning more than two decades; the German Wikipedia calls him Turkey's first investigative television journalist. He became identified with the programme Arena, won the Sedat Simavi Journalism Award, and until 2011 anchored the news at Star TV.

In later years he wrote a column for Sözcü, leaving the paper in December 2025 to join Halk TV. At Fenerbahçe SK he served on the board between 20 February 2000 and 3 March 2002 and chaired the club's high council from 9 April 2022; a club announcement in January 2026 refers to him as its former high-council chairman.
