Uğur Dağdelen — Biography

Uğur Dağdelen was a forward in the Turkish Süper Lig, and his name is most closely tied to Samsunspor. He spent most of his career at that club and pulled on the shirt of the Turkey national team once. He died in Merzifon on 24 September 2015.

Born in Amasya, he started his professional career in the 1990-91 season at Merzifonspor, where he played for three seasons. He then moved to Kardemir Karabükspor and, after a season there, was loaned to Bursaspor. At the start of 1995-96 he signed for Samsunspor on a permanent transfer, and the defining period of his career began. In 1997-98 he went on loan to Kayseri Erciyesspor, returned to Samsunspor a year later and stayed until the end of the 2000-01 season, when he retired. Across his time at Karabükspor, Bursaspor and Samsunspor he made more than 140 Süper Lig appearances and scored more than 30 goals.

His international path began with the match against Poland in the qualifying group of the 1994 European Under-21 Championship. He was called up to national squads eleven times in all, only three of them for official matches. His single senior cap came in the friendly against Russia on 22 April 1998, which was also the last match for which he was in a national squad.
