Turgay Semercioğlu — Biography
Turgay Semercioğlu (born 25 February 1954 in Trabzon) is a former Turkish international footballer and manager. For a time he was also active as a basketball player alongside his football career, but he made his name as a right back for Trabzonspor, the club with which he is most strongly associated.
During Trabzonspor's era of dominance he won six league championships and, together with Şenol Güneş and Necati Özçağlayan, was one of the three players involved in every title won by the club — the first Anatolian side to become Turkish champions. With 402 top-flight appearances he is the club's second-most capped Süper Lig player, behind only Hami Mandıralı. He earned 31 caps for Turkey and at one point set a record by playing in 29 consecutive internationals.
After retiring he joined Trabzonspor's youth academy and helped develop many future first-team players. In December 2003 he briefly took charge of the senior team, stepping down after Atay Aktuğ was elected club president.
